Silvertips acquire Ormsby from Thunderbirds for draft pick
The Seattle Thunderbirds and Everett Silvertips completed the second player-pick trade of the day Thursday.
Headed to the Silvertips is 18-year-old winger Luke Ormsby, a native of Monroe, Wash. and a ninth-round selection, 192nd overall, of the Thunderbirds in the 2014 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft. The Thunderbirds will receive a ninth-round selection in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft in return.
“We’re excited to welcome an individual like Luke to the Silvertips family, who brings proven experience at this level,” Silvertips general manager Garry Davidson said. ” His hard work, beginning in Everett Youth Hockey, gave him the necessary tools to improve each year and reach the WHL level.”
Ormsby made his debut with the Thunderbirds on Dec. 15, 2015, playing four games with the team throughout the season and picking up an assist. In 80 games with the Thunderbirds, the 5-foot-10, 182-pound forward had 12 points (6G-6A) and 39 penalty minutes.
He was also a part of the T-Birds run to winning their first Ed Chynoweth Cup championship last season, playing in 13 playoff games and registering one assist.
