Royals acquire Jensen from Wheat Kings for draft pick
Kade Jensen is headed from the eastern-most Canadian market in the Western Hockey League to the western-most.
The overage defenceman was traded to the Victoria Royals from the Brandon Wheat Kings Friday. In return, the Wheat Kings received a fifth-round draft pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.
Jensen, a 6-foot-3, 218-pound product of Calgary, Alta., was originally drafted by the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the fifth round, 103rd overall, of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. He’s since played 277 WHL regular season games split between the Hurricanes, Swift Current Broncos and Wheat Kings, compiling 56 points (17G-39A), with four power play goals and five game-winning goals in that time span. He’s also recorded 344 penalty minutes in his WHL career.
He’s also played in four WHL Playoff games, all with the Wheat Kings, registering one assist. As the race for the B.C. Division and Western Conference tightens, Jensen’s presence on the back end should help the Royals’ defence.
The Royals are presently on their second swing through the Eastern Conference this year, stopping to play the Medicine Hat Tigers tonight (7:00 p.m. MST) at the Canalta Centre. The Wheat Kings are also on the road in Alberta, facing the Lethbridge Hurricanes (7:00 p.m.) in southern Alberta.
