Rebels deal Dmytriw to Giants for draft pick
Jared Dmytriw is headed back to the B.C. Division.
The 19-year-old forward was acquired in a trade between the Vancouver Giants and Red Deer Rebels Tuesday. In exchange for Dmytriw, the Rebels will receive a third-round draft pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.
Dmytriw was originally acquired by the Rebels in a early September trade with the Victoria Royals for 19-year-old defenceman Jared Freadrich. In 26 games with the Rebels, Dmytriw had nine points (6G-3A), including one power play goal, one short-handed goal and a pair of game-winning goals.
“We’re very excited to add Jared to our team,” Giants general manager Glen Hanlon said. “We wanted to add experience to our roster and he checks off a lot of boxes for us. He’s a fast skater, he’s very difficult to play against and he will be a major asset to our penalty-kill.”
Originally drafted by the Royals in the fourth round, 83rd overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, the 5-foot-11, 192-pound Craven, Sask. product has played in 205 WHL regular season games, tallying 59 points (35G-24A) in that span. He’s also appeared in 26 WHL playoff games, scoring eight points (3G-5A).
Dmytriw will join the Giants ahead of their weekend road trip north to face the Prince George Cougars.
