Oil Kings receive United Way Community Innovation Award
Thanks to tremendous support and generosity from our fans, the Edmonton Oil Kings were presented with the Community Innovation Award Thursday night at the United Way Red Tie Gala.
The award was given to the organization for their unique involvement with the Coats for Kids and Families program which took place in December.
During the December 2 game when the Oil Kings hosted the Saskatoon Blades, the team invited fans to bring a new or gently used coat to the game.
The fans delivered big time, bringing over 450 coats to the game which the team collected for United Way.
“Time and time again our incredible fans step up to assist our community,” said Oil Kings Director of Business Operations, Kevin Radomski.
“We are truly humbled to accept this award thanks to the incredible generosity and desire of our fans to help make Edmonton the best city to call home. It is a core mandate of our team to be active and engaged in our community and thanks to our gracious and giving fans we collectively made a difference in hundreds of families lives this past winter.”
This was the first execution of this extraordinary initiative and Radomski is already excited to encourage fans for next year’s drive.
“Edmontonians are well known for their desire to support and help each other. I am looking forward to next season and collecting more coats, andmaking an even bigger difference in helping keep the families in our community warm.”
