Lightning sign Howden to entry-level contract
Moose Jaw Warriors forward Brett Howden has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning.
Steve Yzerman, vice president and general manager of the Lightning, announced the signing Wednesday.
The 18-year-old Howden, a 6-foot-3, 191-pound product of Oakbank, Man., has 32 points (16G-16A) through 21 games with the Warriors this season. A first round pick (27th) of the Lightning at the 2015 NHL Draft, Howden set career highs in goals (24), assists (40) and points (64) during the 2015-16 WHL season.

Originally a first round pick (fifth) of the Warriors at the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, Howden has amassed 143 points (63G-80A) in 162 career WHL regular season games, all with Moose Jaw. He has added another 15 points (4G-11A) in 10 career WHL playoff outings.
Howden was the Warriors Rookie of the Year for the 2014-15 season and was also named the club’s Humanitarian of the Year in 2015-16.
Howden and the Warriors host the Swift Current Broncos Wednesday night (7 p.m. Saskatchewan).
