Golden Knights prospect Gustafson named new Thunderbirds captain
Vegas Golden Knights prospect Jordan Gustafson is the new captain of the Seattle Thunderbirds.
The defending WHL Champions made the announcement on social media prior to the Club’s home opener this past Saturday.
Gustafson, who hails from Ardrossan, Alta. collected 36 points (16G-20A) in 40 contests for the Thunderbirds during the 2022-23 WHL Regular Season, adding four points in nine post-season contests as Seattle claimed the WHL Championship for the second time in franchise history.
The 19-year-old added two goals and an assist in five outings at the 2023 Memorial Cup in Kamloops, B.C., helping the Thunderbirds reach the final.
He was originally selected by Seattle with the eighth-overall pick in the 2019 WHL Draft and has earned 99 points (43G-56A) in 122 career WHL regular season contests.
The Vegas Golden Knights selected Gustafson in the third round of the 2022 NHL Draft.
He succeeds fellow forward Lucas Ciona, who is beginning his professional career in the Calgary Flames organization.
