Garand shuts the door as Canada downs Switzerland at Hlinka Gretzky Cup
Canada is now 2-0 at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup following a dominant 8-0 win against Switzerland Tuesday in Breclav, Czech Republic.
Goaltender Dylan Garand (Victoria, B.C. / Kamloops Blazers) stopped all eight shots sent his way in the victory to lead a trio of performances from Western Conference players.
Late in the second period, Justin Sourdif (Surrey, B.C. / Vancouver Giants) scored to make it 6-0 while Seth Jarvis (Winnipeg, Man. / Portland Winterhawks) picked up an assist on Canada’s second goal of the game.
Canada scored three goals in the first period, three more in the second, and two in the third period. Now 2-0 at the tournament, Canada stands in first place in Group A. They’ll have a chance to claim first place in the group Wednesday, August 7 (11:00 a.m. MT) when they play the Czech Republic.
