2016 First Overall Pick Krebs Signs With ICE

Cranbrook, BC – Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club today announced Forward, and first overall selection in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft Peyton Krebs has signed a Standard Player Agreement with the Club.

“We are very happy to welcome Peyton Krebs and his family to the Kootenay ICE and the Western Hockey League. As we continue building for the future, Peyton will be a key member of our 2000 and 2001 born prospect group. He is a very dynamic player and we look forward to watching him develop within our organization,” commented Chynoweth.

“I have heard great things about the Kootenay ICE and I cannot wait to get started with the Club,” said Krebs, who is ineligible to play full-time with the ICE until the 2017-18 season. “I am excited to be part of an organization that is close to home, and I look forward to being able to play in front of family and friends. My focus now is to prepare every day and be ready for Training Camp in August,” Krebs added.

Peyton Krebs is a 15 year-old native of Okotoks, Alberta. He led the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League in scoring during the 2015-16 season with 102 points (46-56-102) as a member of the Rocky Mountain Raiders, despite playing in only 27 games. Krebs, who helped his club to a silver medal finish at the Western Canadian Bantam Championships, was named the AMBHL South Division Most Valuable Player and Outstanding Forward at the conclusion of the 2015-16 season. As a first-year bantam player, Krebs and the Raiders won an AMBHL championship in 2014-15. Krebs’ older brother Dakota is a Defenseman with the Tri-City Americans.

Peyton Krebs was the first player selected first overall by the ICE since 1997, and the third player taken with the top WHL Bantam Draft pick in Club history (Steve McCarthy – 1996, Jarret Stoll – 1997).
