Blades flip MacKenzie to Rebels
The Saskatoon Blades made their second trade with a Central Division opponent this week Thursday, sending 18-year-old forward Lukus MacKenzie to the Red Deer Rebels.
In exchange, the Blades will receive a fourth-round selection in the 2018 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.
Mackenzie, a third-round selection, 60th overall, of the Blades in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft, has appeared in 121 WHL regular season contests, tallying 24 points (8G-16A) as well as 143 penalty minutes. In 13 games with the Blades this season, MacKenzie had four points (4A) and 22 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-2, 203-pound Calgary, Alta. product played with the Edge School in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League and the Calgary Bantam AAA Royals. He also represented Calgary South at the 2014 Alberta Cup, scoring three points (1G-2A) in five games.
The Blades will continue a three-game road trip in Medicine Hat against the Tigers Friday. MacKenzie will join the Rebels for their seven-game road trip, which begins Friday at the Brandt Centre against the Regina Pats.
