2022 NHL Draft: Live Blog
For the first time since 2019, the NHL Draft will be hosted in-person, with the 2022 edition of the annual event taking place at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
Round 1 of the 2022 NHL Draft is scheduled to get underway on Thursday evening at 5 p.m. MT. Rounds 2-7 of the 2022 NHL Draft will be carried out on Friday, beginning at 9 a.m. MT.
A total of 53 WHL players were ranked by NHL Central Scouting in advance of the 2022 NHL Draft, including Moose Jaw Warriors forward Jagger Firkus (pictured above) and Winnipeg ICE forward Matthew Savoie, who represents the top-ranked WHL skater – fourth overall among North American skaters. – READ MORE

2022 NHL DRAFT – WHL FIRST-ROUND SELECTIONS
A 6-foot-2, 175-pound product of Saskatoon, Sask., Kevin Korchinski was a finalist for the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy as WHL Rookie of the Year for 2021-22, registering 65 points, including an impressive 61 assists, in 67 games. He was also named to the U.S. Division second all-star team for his efforts. Originally selected by the Seattle Thunderbirds in the first round (10th overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft, Korchinski has recorded 75 points (4G-71A) in 91 regular season games. He added another 19 points (6G-13A) in 25 playoff games, as the Seattle Thunderbirds went on a deep run in 2022.

A 5-foot-9, 178-pound product of St. Albert, Alta., Savoie led the Winnipeg ICE in scoring during the 2021-22 WHL Regular Season with 90 points (35G-55A) and was named to the WHL’s East Division First All-Star Team for his efforts. Originally selected by the ICE with the first-overall pick in the 2019 WHL Draft, Savoie has skated in 87 career WHL regular season games, collecting 97 points (35G-62A). In 10 post-season contests during the spring of 2022, Savoie chipped in with 12 points (6G-6A).
Savoie is the second-highest NHL Draft selection in ICE history, following behind Sam Reinhart, who was a second-overall pick of the Sabres back in 2014.

A 6-foot-4, 205-pound product of Strathclair, Man., Geekie enjoyed an outstanding 2021-22 season, notching 70 points (24G-46A) in 63 games. Originally selected by the ICE with the second-overall pick in the 2019 WHL Draft, Geekie has posted 93 points (33G-60A) in 94 career WHL regular season games. In 15 WHL Playoff games, Geekie added another 11 points (3G-8A).

A 5-foot-11, 186-pound product of Dominion City, Man., Mateychuk led all Warriors defencemen in scoring during the 2021-22 WHL season, tallying 64 points (13G-51A) in 65 games. The impressive performance earned Mateychuk a spot on the WHL East Division’s First All-Star Team. Originally selected by the Warriors in the first round (11th overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft, Mateychuk has skated in 88 career WHL regular season games, collecting 75 points (16G-59A). In 10 games during the 2022 WHL Playoffs, Mateychuk notched 10 points (1G-9A).

A 6-foot-5, 178-pound product of St. Adolphe, Man., Pickering led all Broncos defencemen in scoring with 33 points (9G-24A) in 62 games during the 2021-22 WHL Regular Season, earning a place on the WHL Central Division Second All-Star Team. Originally selected by the Broncos in the ninth round (177th overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft, Pickering has registered 42 points (11G-31A) in 85 career regular season games.
Pickering is the first member of the Broncos selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins since 1982.

Originally selected by the Thunderbirds in the eighth round (164th overall) of the 2018 WHL Draft, Schaefer has skated in 91 career WHL regular season games. In 25 WHL Playoff games, he’s added 21 points (6G-15A).

2022 NHL DRAFT – WHL SECOND-ROUND SELECTIONS
The 5-foot-10, 150-pound product of Irma, Alta. led the Moose Jaw Warriors in scoring with 80 points (36G-44A) in 66 games. Firkus was named to the WHL East Division Second All-Star Team. Originally selected by the Warriors in the fourth round (82nd overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft, Firkus has skated in 101 career WHL games, tallying 96 points (43G-53A).

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound product of Vancouver enjoyed a great season for the B.C. Division-winning Kamloops Blazers, recording 55 points (20G-35A) in 67 games. Originally selected by the Blazers in the fourth round (72nd overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft, Minten has notched 73 points (24G-49A) in 87 regular season games, adding another 16 points (6G-10A) in 17 playoff games.

2022 NHL DRAFT – WHL THIRD-ROUND SELECTIONS
The 5-foot-11, 177-pound product of Ardrossan, Alta. secured 52 points (23G-29A) in 58 games during the 2021-22 season, and added another 16 points (4G-12A) in 25 games as the Seattle Thunderbirds advanced to Game 6 of the 2022 WHL Championship. Originally selected by the Thunderbirds in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft, Gustafson has collected 63 points (27G-36A) in 82 career WHL regular season games.

A 5-foot-11, 185-pound product of Abbotsford, B.C., Milne had a breakout season in 2021-22, exploding for 81 points (38G-43A) in 68 games for the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy-winning Winnipeg ICE. Originally by the ICE in the eighth round (155th overall) of the 2017 WHL Draft, Milne has skated in 175 career WHL regular season games, accruing 133 points (60G-73A). He added another 19 points (13G-6A) in 15 playoff games in 2022.

A 6-foot-3, 198-pound product of Kladno, Czechia, Alscher emerged as a dependable blueliner during his first season in Portland, contributing 16 points (7G-9A) with a plus-20 rating in 61 games. Alscher was originally a first-round pick (26th overall) of the Winterhawks in the 2021 CHL Import Draft.
2022 NHL DRAFT – WHL FOURTH-ROUND SELECTIONS
A 6-foot-3, 190-pound product of Winnipeg, Man., Brennan was the top-ranked North American goaltender by NHL Central Scouting after serving as the backbone for the Prince George Cougars in 2021-22. Originally selected by the Cougars in the first round (21st overall) of the 2018 WHL Draft, Brennan has gone 17-32-3-2 with five shutouts in 59 career regular season appearances in Prince George.

A 6-foot, 176-pound product of North Vancouver, B.C., Lindgren was a steadying presence on the blueline for the Kamloops Blazers in 2021-22, tallying 44 points (5G-39A) in 68 games. Originally selected by the Blazers in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft, Lindgren has skated in 94 career WHL regular season outings, recording 54 points (6G-48A). He added another seven assists in 17 games during the 2022 WHL Playoffs. Lindgren’s father, Mats, was a forward who played in 387 career NHL games from 1996 to 2003.

A 6-foot-3, 200-pound product of Vernon, B.C., King was electric during the 2021-22 WHL Regular Season, going off for 105 points (52G-53A) in 68 games. A finalist for the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy, presented to the WHL Player of the Year, King was named to the WHL Central Division First All-Star Team. Originally selected by the Swift Current Broncos in the first round (13th overall) of the 2017 WHL Draft, King has played in 206 career WHL regular season games, tallying 205 points (89G-116A).

A hulking 6-foot-5, 184-pound product of Surrey, B.C., Beaupit backstopped the Spokane Chiefs in 2021-22, winning 20 games and earning one shutout along the way. Originally selected by the Chiefs in the fourth round (82nd overall) of the 2018 WHL Draft, Beaupit has appeared in 62 career WHL regular season games, going 24-27-6-1.

2022 NHL DRAFT – WHL FIFTH-ROUND SELECTIONS
A 6-foot, 180-pound product of Edmonton, Alta., Davidson led the Seattle Thunderbirds in scoring during 2021-22, registering 89 points (42G-47A) in 64 games. A 2002-born forward, Davidson was named to the WHL U.S. Division First All-Star Team for his efforts this past season. Davidson went undrafted in the WHL Draft, signing a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the Thunderbirds in August 2018. Over the course of 194 career WHL regular season games, he has collected 128 points (61G-67A).

A 6-foot-1, 165-pound product of Tisdale, Sask., Connor Hvidston was quietly effective for the Swift Current Broncos in 2021-22, posting 32 points (13G-19A) in 58 games. Hvidston was originally selected by the Broncos in the seventh round (133rd overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft.
A 6-foot-3, 184-pound product of Coaldale, Alta., Ty Young served as the backup to Tyler Brennan in Prince George, and put in admirable work, going 6-9-3-0 during the 2021-22 WHL regular season. Originally selected by the Cougars in the eighth round (158th overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft, Young has appeared in 26 WHL regular season games, going 6-11-4-0.
A 6-foot-3, 177-pound product of Abbotsford, B.C., Sward led all Chiefs defencemen in scoring during the 2021-22 WHL Regular Season, tallying 43 points (10G-33A) in 57 games. A 2003-born blueliner, Sward was originally selected by the Chiefs in the first round (17th overall) of the 2018 WHL Draft. In 124 career WHL regular season games, he’s secured 62 points (14G-48A). Sward was also a finalist for the WHL Humanitarian of the Year Award in 2021-22.

A 2002-born left winger, Kuefler was originally selected by the Blazers in the 10th round (212th overall) of the 2017 WHL Draft. Since then, he has appeared in 130 career WHL regular season games, accruing 83 points (46G-37A). In 17 games during the 2022 WHL Playoffs, Kuefler added another 17 points (10G-7A).

A 6-foot-3, 181-pound product of Winnipeg, Man., Hofer tallied 58 points (25G-33A) in 67 games with the Everett Silvertips in 2021-22. The brother of St. Louis Blues prospect Joel Hofer, the 2002-born Ryan was undrafted in the WHL, listed by the Silvertips in 2020. Since then, he has been an impact player in Everett, collecting 67 points (31G-36A) in 89 career regular season outings.

A 5-foot-10, 195-pound product of Airdrie, Alta., Josh Davies injected energy into the lineup for the Swift Current Broncos in 2021-22, managing 36 points (16G-20A) in 64 games. Originally selected by the Broncos in the third round (54th overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft, Davies has recorded 45 points (22G-23A) in 87 career WHL contests.
2022 NHL DRAFT – WHL SEVENTH-ROUND SELECTIONS
A 5-foot-9, 167-pound product of Port Coquitlam, B.C., Lisowsky lit the lamp 33 times in 68 games for the Saskatoon Blades during the 2021-22 WHL Regular Season. Originally selected in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft, Lisowsky has appeared in 94 career WHL regular season contests, collecting 75 points (41G-34A).
