Membertou, N.S.- Twenty-one Western Hockey League prospects will compete for Canada’s men’s U18 National Championship at the TELUS Cup from April 22-28 in Membertou, N.S.
The prestigious tournament annually features numerous future NHL stars, including WHL alumni like Stanley Cup Champions Joe Sakic, Mark Stone, Sam Reinhart and Wendel Clark.
15 WHL Clubs have prospects competing at the TELUS Cup, with the Brandon Wheat Kings representing the West Region and the Calgary Buffaloes representing the Pacific Region.
The Wheat Kings dominated the Manitoba U18AAA Hockey League, posting a 43-0-1 record while outscoring their opponents by a staggering 270-82.
However, the West Regional Final would come down to overtime, with Brandon prospect Brady Turko netting the overtime winner to seal a 1-0 win against the Saskatoon Blazers.

Victoria Royals prospect Caleb Matthews led the league in points in both the regular season (18 goals and 50 assists in 35 games) and playoffs (11 goals and 12 assists in 10 games).
The Buffaloes downed the Vancouver NE Chiefs in a pair of tight wins (3-2, 1-0) to reach the TELUS Cup for the ninth time.
Brandon opens the tournament against the Quebec Region Champions, Cantonniers de Magog, at 3:00 p.m. AST on Monday, April 22, with the Buffaloes hitting the ice against the Host Sydney Rush at 7:00 p.m. AST.
