Silvertips graduate Wolf named Calgary Booster Club Male Athlete of the Year
Calgary, Alta.- Dustin Wolf has made a big impact in his relatively short time in Calgary.
The Calgary Flames netminder has been named the 2024 winner of the Scott-Mamini Memorial Award as the Calgary Booster Club’s Male Athlete of the Year.
“To be able to go back through some of the past recipients, obviously some former Flames Like Iginla, Gio (Mark Giordano), and Cale Makar won it last year and he’s a pretty exceptional hockey player to say the least,” Wolf said. “To add yourself to a list of recipients like that is certainly a big honor. This is only my second year full-time in the city of Calgary and you can tell just from from being out in public and being around the arena that you know, they care a lot about their players and their city and their hockey and you see support from them each and every game that we play.”
Before making the jump to the NHL, Wolf put together an all-star career between the pipes for the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers.
In the 2022-23 season, Wolf led all AHL goaltenders with a 42-10-2 record, a 2.09 goals-against average, a .932 save percentage and seven shutouts.
He claimed the Les Cunningham Award as the AHL MVP, the President’s Award for Player Excellence, the Harry ‘Hap’ Holmes Memorial Award for lowest goals-against average and his second consecutive Aldege ‘Baz’ Bastien Memorial Award as the league’s top goalie.
He’s also gone viral for his memorable pre-game warmups, which see him perform dramatic tuck jumps in the crease. In his time playing with the Flames, young fans have even dressed like goalies in the stands to emulate Wolf.

“I just try to have some fun out there and you know, try not to break a leg,” Wolf said with a smile. “I’m in a position where I get to come to the rink and play the game I love each and every day. If I can just try to bring a little more fun and joy to what I’m doing and add some comedy for the fans, that’s what it’s all about.”
Wolf stood in good company with Sportsperson of the Year Winner Patrick Jarvis, a longtime supporter and builder of sport in Canada and former Canadian Paralympic Committee President, Henry Viney Trophy winner for Female Athlete of the Year, Olympic ski jumper Alexandria Loutitt, and Jack Gregory Award-winner David Nicholson, a Special Olympics powerlifter.

Flames legend Al Coates was also among 13 Honoured Athletic Leaders recognized at the event.
Coates spent 13 years with the Calgary Flames as a Senior Advisor and General Manager and was part of the team’s Stanley Cup win in 1989.
Wolf has racked up the accolades at every level of his hockey career so far.
The Gilroy, Calif. product played four seasons with the Everett Silvertips, posting a 106-34-5 record, a 1.84 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage.
Wolf won the Del Wilson Trophy as WHL Goaltender of the Year twice, the Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Trophy as Scholastic Player of the Year and CHL Goaltender of the Year in 2020.
“It was fantastic,” Wolf said of his time with the Silvertips. “As you gain more experience in the league, you could become more accustomed to the players and the teams and the environments. We had some pretty tremendous teams in Everett. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to win a championship there but each and every day I learned something new and I certainly wouldn’t be in the position I am without the staff there and that environment.”
Drafted by the Calgary Flames with the 214th pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Wolf has become a regular fixture on the NHL club’s roster and a fan favourite as an up-and-coming NHLer.
