Warriors’ Halbgewachs Named WHL Player of the Week
Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Moose Jaw Warriors forward Jayden Halbgewachs has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending April 17th, 2016.
Halbgewachs recorded eight points (5g-3a) to go along with a plus-5 rating in three games for the Moose Jaw Warriors this week.
On Tuesday, April 12th against the Brandon Wheat Kings, Halbgewachs notched a hat-trick and two assists to cap off a five point outing as the Warriors went on to win Game 3 by a 7-1 score. Halbgewachs was named the game’s first star for his impressive performance. The following night, Halbgewachs scored a goal in the Warriors 6-2 loss to the Wheat Kings in Game 4. On Friday, April 15th, Halbgewachs closed out his post-season with a goal and an assist for the Warriors who were eliminated by the Wheat Kings in Game 5 with a 7-3 loss.
The 19-year-old native of Emerald Park, SK recorded 41 points (15-26a) in 69 regular season contests while wrapping up the 2016 post-season with nine goals and 15 points. The 5-8, 159 lb forward is in his second WHL campaign with Moose Jaw and has amassed 50 points (19g-31a) in 133 career WHL regular season contests.
The WHL has also nominated Landon Bow of the Seattle Thunderbirds for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Bow, a 1995-born netminder from St. Albert, AB posted a record of 3-0-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against average and a .948 save percentage with one shutout. On Wednesday, April 13th, Bow was effective as he stopped all 23 shots he faced to lead the Thunderbirds to a 5-0 road win in Game 3 against the Everett Silvertips. On Friday, April 15th, Bow turned aside 15 shots as the Thunderbirds went on to win Game 4 by a score of 2-1. The following night, Bow earned his third consecutive victory as he produced 17 saves to guide the Thunderbirds to a 3-2 victory series-clinching win over Everett. Currently in his first WHL campaign with Seattle, Bow has posted a 74-56-8-5 record with a 2.91 goals against average and a .912 save percentage with 15 shutouts in 160 career WHL regular season appearances.
