WHEAT KINGS BLANK RED DEER
Brandon, MB. — The Brandon Wheat Kings cooled off the visiting Red Deer Rebels Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 victory at Westman Communciations Group Place.
Jordan Papirny turned aside 23 shots in posting his third career shutout as the Wheat Kings improved to 24-7-2-1 on the season and snapped the Rebels four game winning streak in the process.
Tim McGauley scored two unasssisted goals – his 19th and 20th of the season – as the Wheat Kings improved to a league leading 12-2-2 record on home ice.
A former member of the Notre Dame AAA Midget Hounds, McGauley currently leads the club in scoring with twenty goals and 42 points. He’s also scored points in eleven straight games, scoring twelve goals and 21 points in the process.
John Quenneville, the game’s first star and Reid Duke rounded out the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who led 1-0 and 2-0 at the period breaks.
Sunday’s game – the third of four meetings between the two teams this season – featured the WHL debut of 16-year old local product Ty Lewis. A former third round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, the 5’10” 176 lb center scored 28 goals and 47 points in 35 games for the Brandon AAA Midget Wheat Kings in 2013-14.
Lewis has been sidelined since training camp with an upper body injury.
Brandon is now 3-0-0 against the 2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup hosts.

As well, those fans that did make it out can now save 4 cents per litre on their gasoline purchase at any Heritage Co-op gas bar in western Manitoba.
The Wheat Kings will now close out their pre-Christmas schedule Tuesday night against Regina in what will be the hockey club’s first Rain Check game of the 2014-15 season. Any unused ticket can be exchanged at the box office for a “free” ticket to this game (regular box office agency fees apply). As well, Tuesday is another “2 for Tuesday” at Westman Place, meaning fans will receive a “free” ticket, with the purchase of another of equal value. The Keystone Centre will also offer specials on a number of concession items.
