TEDDY BEAR TOSS FRIDAY
Brandon, Manitoba One week after helping both the local Humane Society and Helping Hands, the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings will be out to assist three more charities this weekend when they play host to the Vancouver Giants on Friday and the defending champion Kelowna Rockets on Sunday night.r
r
Friday’s game will feature the Seventh Annual McDonalds Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to the game and when the Wheat Kings scorer their first goal of the night, fans will be able to Toss their Teddy to the ice below.r
r
All stuffed animals collected at Friday’s game will be donated to the local Christmas Cheer Board. Last December, close to 1,500 bears, elephants and cartoon characters were distributed throughout western Manitoba.r
r
As well, the Wheat Kings in conjunction with the Keystone Centre will be raffling off $2 tickets for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the February 3rd sold out Nickelback concert. Proceeds from the sale of the tickets will be evenly distributed between Christmas Cheer, the Salvation Army and the Westman Traditional Christmas Dinner. r
r
Meanwhile the Wheat Kings and Juggernaut Computers have teamed up this holiday season in an effort to assist the Westman & Area Traditional Christmas Dinner. The WHL club helped to kick off the Christmas Dinner Toy Drive earlier this week when veterans Ryan Stone and Tim Konsorada turned up at the Richmond Avenue McDonalds to make the first donations of this year’s campaign, which runs throughout the week.r
r
The Wheat Kings and Juggernaut Computers encourage fans to bring a new, unwrapped toy or non perishable food item to Sunday’s game. For all fans that do, they will be entered to win an Olympus D-390 digital camera, compliments of Juggernaut Computers.r
r
The Christmas Dinner has been held for the past eighteen years in Brandon. The first one, which was organized by former Wheat King coach and trainer Rocky Addison, was attended by thirty people and was held in a small church at the corner of 8th Street and Victoria Avenue. The Dinner quickly outgrew the capacity of the church and was moved to the Prairie Oasis Centre. Five years ago, the increase in numbers forced the organizaers to move the event to the Keystone Centre.r
