WHEAT KINGS HOST BLAZERS TUESDAY
Brandon, MB. — The temperatures outside may be bitterly cold but the action in Westman Place will heat things up Tuesday night as the Brandon Wheat Kings will open up a 3-game pre-Christmas homestand against the visiting Kamloops Blazers.
Tuesday night is Rain Check Night at Westman Communications Group Place as well as the first “2 for Tuesday” of the 2013-14 Western Hockey League season.
Rain Check Night means that any unused 2013-14 Wheat Kings ticket can be exchanged at the box office for a complimentary ticket (regular box office agency fees apply) to this game.
As well, fans purchasing a regular priced ticket will receive a second one (of equal or lesser value) “free” for this game.
Fans attending will also have the opportunity to take advantage of a number of concession specials from the Keystone Centre – including $2.99 beer, $2 hot dogs and $2 popcorn.
The Wheat Kings, who are coming off Saturday’s 3-1 victory over the Warriors in Moose Jaw, enter Tuesday’s game with a record of 16-14-2-0 and are tied with the Kootenay Ice for seventh place in the WHL’s Eastern Conference.
Brandon will have 17-year old center Jayce Hawryluk back in the lineup on Tuesday, after serving a 2-game suspension for a hit that he levelled during last Wednesday’s win over the Regina Pats. A former second round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, the Roblin product currently leads Brandon in scoring with twelve goals and 33 points.
Tuesday’s game will be the first of three home games this week for the Wheat Kings, who host the Kelowna Rockets on Friday and the Warriors on Saturday night. Friday’s game will feature the annual Shoppers Mall Teddy Bear Toss while Saturday’s game is the annual Calendar Poster Giveaway, presented by McDonalds Restaurants of Brandon and The Brandon Sun.
In other off-ice news, The Home Depot has generously donated a Team Holiday Tree display to the Wheat Kings brand new offices at the Keystone Centre. As Christmas approaches and the Wheat Kings office closes for the holidays, the 7′ tree will be given to the organizers of the Annual Westman Traditional Christmas Dinner.
This year marks the 29th year for the Dinner, which delivered 2200 meals to shut-ins and served 2300 meals to those who attended the dinner in 2012.
