MILLER SUSPENDED BY WHL
WHL SLAPS MILLER WITH SUSPENSION:
Brandon, MB. – The Brandon Wheat Kings have learned that veteran defenceman Ryley Miller will not be in the lineup this weekend when they close out a 3-game Western Hockey League home stand at Westman Place.
The WHL has slapped the 18-year old Brandon blueliner with a 2-game suspension for what appeared to be a clean open ice hit on Everett forward Kellan Tochkin during Wednesday’s Overtime Shootout loss to the Silvertips.
“I thought Ryley’s check on Tochkin was a textbook open ice hit,” says Brandon coach and general manager Kelly McCrimmon. “ If you were trying to teach young defensemen how to body check it would be a perfect example. He demonstrated great angling, skating, footwork and courage in making that hit, something Wheat King fans have come to expect from Ryley.”
“The suspension is very disappointing,,” McCrimmon went on to say. “These are not the hits we are trying to take out of the game.”
In 28 games this season, the 6’ 180 lb Spruce Grove, Alberta product has four assists and 57 minutes in penalties.
