MCCRIMMON TO ATTEND SUMMIT
Brandon, MB — Brandon Wheat Kings’ General Manager and Coach Kelly McCrimmon is one of a number of panelists that have been invited to participate in this summer’s World Hockey Summit in Toronto.
rMcCrimmon will be among the panelists discussing Junior Development in the World on August 24th.
r“There’ll be presentations made and then I’ll sit on a panel that will comment on those presentations, engage in discussion with other panelists and take questions from the other people in attendance,” McCrimmon recently told Bruce Luebke of 880 CKLQ. “The discussion we’ve had among, it sounds very interesting.”
The presentations will be made by Slavomir Lerner, director and head coach of the Czech Republic national team and IIHF vice-president Murray Costello while Buffalo Sabres’ GM Darcy Regier and Central Collegiate Hockey Association Commissioner Tom Anastos are among the other panelists.
In addition to assessing the results and figures from the IIHF World (U20) Junior Championship, the Olympics and the NHL Entry Draft, a Hockey Canada release also indicated the session topics will include such topics as the impact of European migration to the Canadian Hockey League, the effect of Europeans leaving for the NHL and AHL as well as addressing the developmental shortcomings in elite junior and college programs.
“It’s something I think I’ll find very worthwhile,” says McCrimmon, “I’m interested in attending the rest of the conference with the different topics that will be discussed and some of the real good hockey people that will be presenting and speaking to those points.”
The World Hockey Summit will take place from August 23-26 in Toronto.
