LABOSSIERE NAMED ATOM JET COMMUNITY HERO
Brandon, MB. — A member of the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame, who was recently inducted into its prestigious Honour Society will be recognized during Friday’s Western Hockey league game between the Brandon Wheat Kings and Edmonton Oil Kings.
Brandon’s Mike Labossiere has been named winner of February’s Atom Jet Group Community Hero Award.
Labossiere, who was an outstanding player in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League from 1969 to 1989, has been an active volunteer, organizer and teacher in the sport for decades.
While Labossiere said his induction into the Hall will always be a highlight, being inducted to its Honour Society was special for a unique reason.
“My dad was put into the Honour Society a number of years ago,” the former Hamiota Red Sox all star catcher recently told the Brandon Sun’s Perry Bergson. “He was inducted in 1980 so that’s another sort of neat thing.”
Receiving the Atom Jet Community Hero Award is an added bonus for Labossiere, who considers this accolade as a nod to his work in the sport after retiring from the game.
“I don’t have any trouble staying busy,” says the retired teacher, who spent many years at Elton Collegiate in Forrest.
In addition to playing, Labossiere has been active in coaching and scouting over the years as well as being an active participant when the Toronto Blue Jays alumni hosted an on field seminar in Brandon last summer.

The Wheat Kings, who host the Kootenay Ice on Wednesday, enter the week with a record of 35-17-2-2 and sitting atop the WHL’s Eastern Division.
