GOALS FOR KIDS SET RECORD
Brandon, Manitoba The Brandon Wheat Kings are pleased to announce that a record setting amount of money was raised during the 2002-2003 Western Hockey League season for the Westman Dream for Kids Goals for Kids campaign.r

This past season, the Wheat Kings scored 258 goals which generated $17,151 for the Foundation, which was formed in 1991 to help make dreams come true for western Manitoba children suffering from life threatening diseases.r

Goals for Kids was established the following year and has raised $140,000 over the past eleven years.r

As in past years, several local businesses served as corporate sponsors this past year. Each time the Wheat Kings scored a goal, these sponsors would donate at least $10 to the Foundation. Among the many businesses that participated in this year’s campaign were Paterson Grain and McDonalds. McDonalds is the hockey club’s major corporate sponsor while Paterson Grain was the largest contributor, donating $3,500 to this year’s campaign.r

Among the others were BDO Dunwoody, Manitoba Farm Life, Ken Campbell of Precision Toyota, Wheat City Journal, J & G Supply, Reesors Jewellery, The Bakery, Pharmasave, C & C Rentals, Diamond Waterworks, Sound Advice Electronics, Paddock Drilling, Chris Judd of Nesbitt Burns, Dr. Neil Neary, Jason Kreiser of the Keystone Centre, Al Rosendaal of Investors Group, West-Fit Physiotherapy, Northside Mazda, Smooth Freight, Webber Printing, Brad Munn and Ron Cornell of Royal Lepage Martin Liberty Realty, Westman Winter Hockey League, Ballingall Brothers, Bob Patterson of Patterson, Paterson, Wyman & Abel, Total Farm Supply, Rem Manufacturing Ltd. and McPhail Travel (Brandon).r

Captain Ryan Craig, who led the club in scoring this season with 42 goals and 74 points, generated $2,100 in donations while popular right-winger Jordin Tootoo was next with $1,575 after scoring a career high 35 goals.r

A special cheque presentation will be made at this Saturday’s WHL playoff game at the Keystone Centre between the Wheat Kings and Regina Pats.r

Game one of the best of seven opening round playoff series is scheduled for Friday night and as of this morning, well over two thousand tickets were still available.r
