GOALS FOR KIDS NETS OVER $7,000
Brandon, Manitoba — The Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings are pleased to announce that over $7,000 was raised during the 2010-11 Western Hockey League season for the Westman Dreams for Kids “Goals for Kids” Campaign.
The Wheat Kings, who currently lead the Medicine Hat Tigers two games to one in the WHL Eastern Conference Quarter Final scored 281 goals this past season, helping to generate a total of $7,225 for the Foundation.
The Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation was formed in 1991 to help make dreams come true for western Manitoba children suffering from life threatening diseases.
“Goals for Kids” was established the following year and has raised over $300,000 since that time.
The Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation is a non-profit, local registered organization dedicated to granting dreams to seriously ill children throughout western Manitoba.
As in past years, several local businesses served as corporate sponsors this year. Each time, the Wheat Kings scored a goal or Brandon recorded a shutout, these sponsors would donate at least $25 to the Foundation.
Among the local businesses participating in this year’s program were C & C Rentals, Dr. Nadia Cymbaluk, Scott Ball of Precision Toyota, Roy, Johnston & Co., Wheat City Roofing, Mobile One Marine, Summit Promotions, Jason Krieser of the Keystone Centre, Crocus Credit Union, Progressive Sanitation, Total Eye Care, West Fit Physiotherapy, Morningstar Metals, J & G Supply, Ron Cornell of Royal LePage, Al Rosendaal of Investors Group, Kuipers’ Family Bakery, Paterson, Patterson & Wyman, Emco Waterworks, Jordan Campbell of Northside Mazda, Advance Auto Body & Glass, Brandon Source for Sports and Dr. Brian Kiliwnik.
Wheat Kings’ captain Shayne Wiebe scored a career high 44 goals for Brandon this season, generating $1,100 for “Goals for Kids” while Mark Stone and Scott Glennie were next with 39 and 37 goals respectively, translating into another donation of $1,900.
On the ice, the Wheat Kings host Medicine Hat in game four of their best of seven opening round playoff series Thursday night at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg. After splitting the first two games of the series in Medicine Hat over the weekend, the Wheat Kings scored a 6-3 victory in game three Monday night.
Following Thursday’s game, the two teams will travel to Medicine Hat for the fifth game of the series on Saturday.
