FORMER WHEAT KING MISSING
Portage la Prairie, Manitoba (Courtesy of The Brandon Sun) — A former Brandon Wheat King during the 1970’s, who now lives in Portage has gone missing, police say.r

Rick Blight, 49, was last seen on APril 3rd diriving his grey 2004 Dodge Ram, according to the Portage la Prairie RCMP. He hasn’t shown up for work or contacted family or friends in more than a week.r

“I’ve talked to his wife and son and they’re pretty upset about it,” says Portage Const. Neil Bailey.r

Blight is 6’2″ and 245 lbs. He has short, light brown hair and a moustache. His pickup truck has Manitoba license plate CAG 549 and decals for Blight’s Portage Ltd., a Case IH dealer.r

Blight was a forward with the Wheat Kings between 1971 and ’75 and is one of three Wheat Kings to win the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the Western Hockey League’s Top Rookie.r

He led the team in scoring during the ’74-75 season with 112 points before moving on to his professional career. In 326 career games with the National Hockey League’s Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings, Blight tallied 96 goals and 221 points.r

For the past ten years, Blight has been a member of the Don Spriggs curling team. Spriggs told the Winnipeg Free Press that he last saw Blight about two weeks ago and his friend never said anything about going on a trip.r

“I’m concerned as well as a whole lot of other people,” said Spriggs.r
