FLYERS SIGN SKOLNEY TO MULTI YEAR DEAL

Brandon, Manitoba The Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that veteran defenceman Wade Skolney has come to terms on a three year contract with the National Hockey League’s Philadelphia Flyers.r

A five year WHL veteran, Skolney is coming off his best ever season. In 49 regular season games, the 20-year old Wynyard, Saskatchewan native scored four goals and 16 points. He also accumulated 179 minutes in penalties.r

Skolney was also instrumental in this spring’s playoffs, leading Brandon to a seventh and deciding game against Red Deer in the Eastern Conference Final. Not only did the former first round bantam draft choice play close to thirty minutes a game, he managed to score two goals, nine points and collect 58 penalty minutes in nineteen playoff games.r

Chosen this year’s Art Marshall A Plus Trophies Top Graduating Player on the Wheat Kings, Skolney was one of three overagers on the 2001-02 club joining left-winger Randy Ponte and center iceman Travis Eagles.r

In five years with the Wheat Kings, the 6′ 200 lb. Skolney scored ten goals and 54 points in 172 career WHL games. r
