BRONCOS’ GM & HEAD COACH HAS REASON TO SMILE
Calgary, Alberta — The Western Hockey League has announced that Brad McEwen, general manager and head coach of the Swift Current Broncos has been named the recipient of the Lloyd Saunders Memorial Trophy as the WHL Executive of the Year.r

This past season, the Broncos finished second in the league with 97 points, eventually losing out to the third ranked Brandon Wheat Kings in the Eastern Conference semi-final series. McEwen was also an assistant coach for the 2001-2002 Hershey Cup All Star Game in Red Deer, Alberta.r

“I’m honoured to be chosen for his award. There are so many qualified individuals within the League that almost any one of them could earn this distinction. In Swift Current, it’s more of a group management effort. I’d like to thank my support staff for helping to contribute to our success this year,” said McEwen.r

As McEwen begins his third season with the Broncos, he is looking forward to a successful year and a bright future for the team. Brad and his wife Penny reside in Swift Current and have three children – Taras, Alex and Sydney.r

Among the past winners of this award are Brent Sutter of Red Deer, Spokane’s Tim Speltz, Kelly McCrimmon of the Wheat Kings, Portland’s Ken Hodge and Russ Farwell of the Seattle Thunderbirds.
