REBELS SCORE IMPRESSIVE WIN
Red Deer, AB – The Red Deer Rebels ran their winning streak to six games Wednesday night with an impressive 5-2 victory over the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings.
The two teams were scoreless through twenty minutes but the Rebels bust the game wide open in the second with three unanswered goals and never looked back
This was certainly a night that the score seemed to flatter the defending Western Hockey League champions as Red Deer outshot Brandon to the tune of 56-24. 19-year old Logan Thompson, the game’s third star, made 51 saves in a losing effort.
Red Deer got goals from five different players, including Brenden Hagel, who added an assist.
Stelio Mattheos and Tyler Coulter scored in a losing cause for the Wheat Kings, who saw their record slip to 6-4-2-0 on the season. The loss also snapped Brandon’s 4-game win streak.
Coulter returned to the lineup after serving a 2-game suspension but the Wheat Kings were still without veterans Reid Duke and Nolan Patrick. Duke was attending a family funeral while Patrick remains on the sidelines with an upper body injury. He is listed as day to day entering this weekend’s 2-game series against the Kootenay Ice in Cranbrook, B.C.
Brandon’s next home game is Wednesday, November 2nd against Moose Jaw.
