‘Tips Haunt Giants on Friday the 13th
EVERETT – Backstopped by a 22-save shutout for goaltender Carter Hart, the Everett Silvertips scored three times in the first period on their way to a 6-0 victory over the Vancouver Giants at XFINITY Arena. The ‘Tips are now 18-5-3-1 when playing at home this season and remain seven points ahead of Portland for first place in the U.S. Division.
Remi Laurencelle scored twice and added an assist to give him three points on the night. Lucas Skrumeda netted his first career WHL goal and was a +4 with an additional assist. Kohl Bauml, Carson Stadnyk and Tristen Pfiefer rounded out the Silvertips scoring for the game, while Noah Juulsen, Brayden Low and Ivan Nikolishin each recorded two assists. Goaltender Carter Hart (12-4-2-0) turned away all 22 shots faced for his third career shutout.
The Silvertips opened scoring early in the first after Remi Laurencelle fired a sharp-angled shot under the pads of goaltender Cody Porter. Midway through the frame, Dawson Leedahl carried the puck into the Giants zone and Kohl Bauml released a rocket to the top of the net to put the ‘Tips up by two. Following Everett’s second goal, Payton Lee was brought in to relieve Porter in net. The goaltender change didn’t carry the momentum change Vancouver was looking for, because minutes later Lucas Skrumeda wired a shot to the back of the net to make it 3-0 for the Silvertips. Shots were 11-7 for the home team after 20 minutes of play.
Everett killed off the first penalty of the game at the start of the second to preserve their three-goal lead. Shortly after the penalty expired, Remi Laurencelle fired a perfectly placed shot to the top corner for his second goal of the night to increase the ‘Tips lead to four. Vancouver thought they had their first goal of the night from Zane Jones, but the puck was batted in with a high-stick and called off to preserve Everett’s shutout bid. The Silvertips held a 20-15 lead on the shot clock through two periods of play.
The ‘Tips killed off a Vancouver powerplay to start the third period and another midway through the frame as they continued to deny the Giants their first goal of the game. Everett went on the man-advantage late in the third and Carson Stadnyk scored 13 seconds in to put the Silvertips up by five. Tristen Pfeifer scored another powerplay goal late in the period to give Everett a 6-0 victory over the Giants with final shots at 25-22 in favor of the ‘Tips.
Vancouver goaltender Cody Porter (12-12-1-2) stopped 5 of 7 shots faced in 13 minutes in net before Payton Lee came in and stopped 14 of 18 during 47 minutes in net. The Silvertips powerplay was a perfect 2 for 2 and denied the Giants a goal on four opportunities.
