KENT – A tough first period provided the game’s only scoring as the Everett Silvertips fell to the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-0 Friday night at the Showare Center in Kent. The ‘Tips are now 3-3 in preseason action heading into their final exhibition game Saturday night against the T-Birds at Comcast Arena.
Austin Lotz played all 60 minutes in goal for the Silvertips, stopping 30 of 33 shots faced. Everett outshot Seattle 23-21 over the last two periods of the contest, but couldn’t find the back of the net in defeat.
Everett got off to a rough start in the first period as Seattle tallied three goals giving them a sizable lead after twenty minutes. The Thunderbirds’ goals were scored by Taylor Green, Seth Swenson and Brendan Rouse on the powerplay. The ‘Tips were outshot 12-4 in the first, but generated a few scoring chances late in the period.
The Silvertips picked up the tempo in the second stanza, outshooting the T-Birds 11-9. They continued that pace in the third with 12 more shots on net, but couldn’t manage to draw closer. Neither team converted a goal in the final 40 minutes, giving Seattle a 3-0 victory.
The ‘Tips were 2 for 3 on the penalty kill, while Seattle shut down all three of the Silvertips powerplay attempts. Brandon Glover stopped all 27 shots he faced to earn the shutout for the Thunderbirds.
The Silvertips will close out their preseason schedule Saturday night at Comcast Arena with the second game of the back-to-back set with Seattle. Opening faceoff is set for 7:05 pm, and all fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations with them to the game for the end of our preseason food drive benefitting the Volunteers of America Everett Food Bank.
