WARRIORS DOWN RAIDERS – Quinton Howden scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Moose Jaw Warriors to a 7-2 win over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders in WHL action on Saturday night.
Kenton Miller, Cam Braes and Cody Beach each tallied a goal and an assist while James Henry also counted for the Warriors (32-15-5-1), who scored the game’s last five goals en route to their fourth win in five games. Spencer Tremblay made 28 saves to record his fifth win of the season.
Mark McNeill scored on a penalty shot and added an assist while Mike Winther tallied his 27th goal of the season for the Raiders (18-32-1-2), who suffer their second loss in as many nights. Luke Lee-Knight made 28 saves in a losing cause.
HURRICANES 3, PATS 2
Nick Buonassisi’s goal 6:04 into the third period stood as the winner as the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes edged the Regina Pats 3-2 on Saturday.
Sam Mckechnie and Brady Ramsay also scored for the Hurricanes (21-33-0-1), who scored the game’s first three goals and hung on for their second win in a row. Damien Ketlo turned in a 45-save performance to earn the win versus his former team.
Chandler Stephenson notched a goal and an assist and Dominik Volek also counted for the Pats (27-21-5-1), who outshot the visiting ‘Canes 47-13 but still suffer the loss. Adam Beukeboom stopped 10 shots in a losing effort.
WHEAT KINGS 6, BRONCOS 3
Mark Stone scored twice and set up three more for a five-point effort as the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings doubled up the Swift Current Broncos 6-3 on Saturday.
Michael Ferland and Ryan Pulock each tallied a goal and two assists while Darian Dziurzynski also scored for the Wheat Kings (26-25-1-2), who pad their lead to four points over Red Deer for eighth place in the Eastern Conference. Brandon Anderson made 28 saves in the win.
Levi Bews, Colby Cave and Taylor Vause scored for the Broncos (20-29-2-3), who held a 3-1 lead early in the second period but gave up five unanswered goals for their second straight loss. Jon Groenheyde made 30 saves in the loss.
TIGERS 7, BLADES 2
Hunter Shinkaruk scored three goals and chipped in an assist to lead the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers to a 7-2 victory over the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday.
Curtis Valk scored two goals and added an assist while Jayden Hart and Boston Leier also scored for the Tigers (32-18-2-2), who earn their second win in a row and move into sole possession of third place in the Eastern Conference. Tyler Bunz made 41 saves to post his 31st win of the season.
Lukas Sutter and Dalton Thrower scored for the Blades (32-20-0-1), who fall to sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Andrey Makarov and Adam Todd combined for 21 saves in the loss.
ICE 4, CHIEFS 2
Dylen McKinlay scored three goals to help the visiting Kootenay Ice to a 4-2 victory over the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday night.
Joe Antilla also scored while Jesse Ismond picked up three assists for the Ice (29-15-4-4), who record their second win in as many nights and jump to fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Nathan Lieuwen made 28 saves to claim the victory.
Mitch Holmberg – with his 21st of the season – and Brenden Kichton scored for the Chiefs (29-16-4-3), who outshot the Ice 30-20 in the contest. Mac Engel made 16 saves in the setback.
HITMEN 6, REBELS 2
Jimmy Bubnick scored twice and set up three more while finishing +5 in the game to lead the visiting Calgary Hitmen to a 6-3 triumph over the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday.
Trevor Cheek scored twice while Cody Sylvester and Danny Gayle each tallied a goal and an assist for the Hitmen (32-18-2-1), who scored four times in the opening frame en route to their 16th road win of the season. Chris Dreidger made 26 saves to claim his seventh win in a row.
John Persson and Alex Petrovic scored for the Rebels (23-24-1-4), who suffer their second loss in a row and drop four points back of Brandon for eighth place in the Eastern Conference. Deven Dubyk and Bolton Pouliot combined for 18 saves in the loss.
GIANTS 3, WINTERHAWKS 2
Jordan Martinook scored the go-ahead goal – his 30th of the season – with 29 seconds to play to lead the visiting Vancouver Giants to a 3-2 victory over the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday.
Marek Tvrdon scored twice for the Giants (31-19-1-2), who move into a tie with Spokane for fourth place in the Western Conference. Adam Morrison turned in a 47-save performance to backstop the Giants to the win.
Tyler Wotherspoon and Taylor Peters scored for the Winterhawks (34-15-2-1), who see their franchise-record 19-game home winning streak come to an end. Mac Carruth made 26 saves in a losing cause.
ROCKETS 4, COUGARS 1
Shane McColgan scored and set up two more to lead the visiting Kelowna Rockets to a 4-1 triumph over the Prince George Cougars on Saturday.
Myles Bell – with a goal and an assist – Tyrel Goulbourne and Carter Rigby also scored for the Rockets (24-23-2-4), who defeat the Cougars for a second straight night while earning their fifth win in six games. Adam Brown made 14 saves in the victory.
Daulton Siwak scored the only goal for the Cougars (16-34-0-2), who suffer their third loss in a row and remain in ninth place in the Western Conference. Devon Fordyce turned aside 45 of 49 shots he faced in the defeat.
BLAZERS 3, THUNDERBIRDS 1
Brendan Ranford scored his 29th goal of the season and added an assist to lead the visiting Kamloops Blazers to a 3-1 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday.
Cole Ully and Tim Bozon also counted for the Blazers (37-12-1-3), who earn their 18th road victory of the season. Cam Lanigan turned aside 38 of 39 shots to claim his 10th victory of the season.
Colin Jacobs scored for the Thunderbirds (18-31-1-1), who see their losing skid hit five games but remain in eighth place in the Western Conference. Calvin Pickard made 40 saves in a losing cause.
AMERICANS 6, ROYALS 3
Adam Hughesman scored twice and set up two more to lead the Tri-City Americans to a 6-3 victory over the visiting Victoria Royals on Saturday night.
Brendan Shinnimin tallied a goal and three assists while Sam Grist, Zach Yuen and Jesse Mychan also counted for the Americans (37-12-1-1), who win their second straight game and remain two points back of Kamloops for first place in the overall WHL standings. Ty Rimmer made 32 saves in the victory.
Jamie Crooks, Brandon Magee and Jesse Zgraggen scored for the Royals (17-31-2-4), who went 0-for-6 on the power play as they drop their second straight decision. Keith Hamilton and Jared Rathjen combined for 37 saves in the defeat.
