RECAP: Wrong Wednesday
EVERETT, Wash. – Mathew Barzal and Nolan Volcan posted three assists while Landon Bow turned away all 23 shots he saw to help the Seattle Thunderbirds hold off the Everett Silvertips, 5-0 in Game 3 of the second round of the WHL Playoffs at XFINITY Arena on Wednesday.
The Silvertips fell behind in the best-of-seven series, 2-1 without defenseman and second-team WHL All-Star Noah Juulsen and overager Carson Stadnyk (current Silvertip leader in games played). Carter Hart made 26 saves in his fourth consecutive appearance in net.

Dawson Leedahl’s booming hit on the first shift of the game set a physical tone that would resonate throughout much of the first period, ending in a scoreless tie. But the Silvertips, unable to capitalize on three power plays in the opening frame, fell behind at the 1:39 mark of the second period.
Scott Eansor snuck a high-rising wrister through traffic and off Carter Hart’s glove for a 1-0 lead, and Ethan Bear followed with his third goal of the postseason, set up in the slot by Barzal’s feed, for a 2-0 cushion at 9:14. In similar fashion, Keegan Kolesar found a soft spot and finished another Barzal centering pass through traffic with 3:52 remaining in the period.
The Silvertips struggled to generate continuous momentum for a comeback attempt, and Leedahl was issued a five-minute major penalty for kneeing, which led to back-to-back Thunderbird power play strikes. Turner Ottenbreit finished his first of the postseason at 14:10, and Barzal hit Donovan Neuls on the tape at the left circle with 15:07 elapsed for a 5-0 cushion.
Mario Petit relieved Hart for the remainder of the game as Bow finished his second shutout of the postseason.
