Kelowna Defeats Everett, 6-2
The Everett Silvertips couldn’t find a way to get past the Kelowna Rockets Wednesday night taking a 6-2 loss. Shane Harper extends his goal streak to five straight games including 11 points and a +10 rating in those games. Tyler Maxwell added his 17th goal while Markus McCrea, Byron Froese and Ryan Murray had an assist each. Kelowna’s Mitchell Callahan led the offensive surge putting up four points (2G, 2A) and taking the night’s first star.
The Rockets took advantage of an early Froese hooking call to get on the board first Wednesday night. Thomas Heemskerk stopped a wrist shot from the low left circle that snuck behind the Everett netminder. Tyler Halliday pushed home the rebound at 3:13 for the quick Kelowna lead. Harper found the back of the net for his fifth straight game at 6:29 to tie the game 1-1. Harper picked up a rebound off a McCrea shot putting the puck five-hole past Adam Brown for his 20th of the year. 41 seconds later had the Rockets going back on top with Callahan’s eighth goal of the season. Driving the side of the net, Callahan jammed home Kelowna’s second goal at 7:10. Increasing their lead to two, Kelowna made the score 3-1 at 15:19 with Shane McColgan’s 10th goal. McColgan found the puck in the slot after a pile up in the crease, putting it past Heemskerk and giving Kelowna a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.
The second period showed no let up from Kelowna scoring two quick goals in the period, the first from Callahan at 1:54 picking up a rebound and beating Heemskerk in front of a scramble. The Rockets collected their second power play goal at 2:31 with Geordie Wudrick walking around the crease and beating a Heemskerk poke check for a 5-1 Kelowna lead. Kent Simpson relieved Heemskerk after Kelowna’s fifth goal. Maxwell scored his 17th goal of the season collecting a loose puck in Kelowna’s crease on the power play at 12:09, closing the Rockets lead to three.
Kelowna added to their lead with Max Adolph’s first goal of the season at 6:34 of the third period. Adolph batted a rebound out of midair past Simpson to make the score 6-2 Kelowna.
This brings the ‘Tips record to 16-9-1-0 with 33 points in 26 games played. Everett goes on a two game road trip this weekend heading down to Portland this Friday to face the Winterhawks at 7:30, then onto Kent, WA for a divisional match-up against the Seattle Thunderbirds at 7:05.
