HAWKS CLAIM GAME 3 WIN IN EDMONTON
WINTERHAWKS EARN SECOND STRAIGHT WIN IN WHL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES – Mac Carruth turned in a 38-save performance to record his 47th career playoff victory as the visiting Portland Winterhawks skated to a 3-1 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings in Game 3 of the 2013 WHL Championship series on Tuesday night at Rexall Place in Edmonton, AB.
Ty Rattie scored his 47th career playoff goal, tying him with former Medicine Hat Tiger Mark Pederson for the most career playoff goals in WHL history. The Airdrie, AB, product now has 47 goals and 92 points in 73 career post-season contests for Portland.
Taylor Leier tallied a goal and an assist and Oliver Bjorkstrand also counted for the Winterhawks, who opened up a 3-0 lead in the first period and held off a furious Oil Kings charge in the third period to post their second win in a row.
Michael St. Croix – with his 11th of the playoffs – scored the only goal for the Oil Kings, who now find themselves trailing the best-of-seven series 2-1.
Laurent Brossoit made 24 saves on 27 shots in a losing cause for the Oil Kings.
The 2013 WHL Championship series continues with Game 4 on Wednesday night in Edmonton.
