Chiefs Shut Out Silvertips, 2-0
Everett, WA – Mac Engel stopped all 23 Everett shots faced for his second career WHL shutout to lead the Spokane Chiefs to a 2-0 win over the Silvertips at Comcast Arena. Kent Simpson, in a strong performance, made 37 saves for Everett. Ryan Murray earned third star for his solid game Friday night. Dominik Uher and Mitch Holmberg scored for Spokane.
Uher opened up the scoring for the Chiefs Friday night at 15:20 of the first period. Scoring on a man advantage, Uher re-directed a hard wrist shot from the right point by Jared Cowen to give Spokane a 1-0 lead. Spokane led 13-10 in shots after the first 20 minutes of play.
After a scoreless second period and strong goaltending from Simpson and Engel, Everett pulled Simpson for an extra attacker with 1:18 left to play in regulation. Spokane’s Holmberg scored an empty net goal at 18:51 to conclude a 2-0 victory over the ‘Tips.
This brings the ‘Tips record to 23-24-4-4 with 54 points in 55 games played. Everett comes back to Comcast Arena this Sunday to take on the Kelowna Rockets at 5:05 pm.
