Calla Scores Game Winner in Overtime
Brady Calla lifted the Everett Silvertips to a 4-3 victory over the Vancouver Giants with his game winning goal late overtime. Everett finishes this series with the Giants at 1-4-0-1. The Silvertips now have 67 points and are holding on to second place. Their record rises to 29-24-7-2 while the Giants’ record falls to 30-27-3-3. Vancouver sits in third in the BC Division with 67 points.
Brady Calla clinched the first overtime win this season for the Silvertips when he put the puck in the net with 19 seconds left to go in the game. At the beginning Torrie Wheat was the first to put a tally on the board. At 3:29 of the first he sent one between the pipes to make it 1-0, with an assist from Alex Leavitt. Kyle Annesley then stepped up at 3:48 in the second to make it 2-0. Ryan Blatchford and Shaun Heshka earned the assists on the Silvertips’ second goal. After Vancouver rallied with two unanswered goals, Shaun Heshka came through and broke the 2-2 tie at 14:45 in the third period with assists from Brady Calla and Michael Wuchterl. Vancouver tied it up again and sent this game into overtime where Brady Calla earned the game winner. Mitch Love got the assist on the last Everett goal.
Vancouver Giant Jason Reese put two points on the board for his team, one in the second period and one in the third. Adam Courchaine’s third period goal at 18:13 was the point that sent this game into overtime. Receiving assists were Max Gordichuk, Paul Albers, Andrej Meszaros and Adam Courchaine.
The Silvertips’ rookie netminder Leland Irving demonstrated his ability again and again by making 25 saves on 28 shots. His record rises to 8-7-1. Adam Jennings, the Giants’ goalie, stopped 23 of 27 shots and drops his record to 30-27-3-3. On the power play Everett went 1 for 7 while Vancouver went 0 for 4. The Giants snuck by the Silvertips in shots on goal by a margin of 28-27.
Tomorrow night, February 27th, the Silvertips are back at home to face off against the Tri-City Americans. Game time is set for 5:05pm.
