Everett came out extremely strong against Seattle in the first, as they only allowed 3 shots in the first 10 minutes of play. Garrett Pilon started off the scoring for the series, roofing a snap shot from the right circle over Liam Hughes to make it 1-0 Tips at 10:17. It was a big effort from Wyatte Wylie who got the play going for Everett and a nice pass by Fonteyne to get it on Pilon’s stick. Everett dominated the shots, 13-7 and owned the game’s first six shots.
The second period was a tremendous effort by Everett. The end of the first saw a penalty taken by Richards at the 20 minute mark which lead to the Tips starting out the second on the penalty kill. The Tips did extremely well to not allow Seattle to set up for any quality chances. A bad turnover by Seattle lead to Matt Fonteyne stealing the puck and a nifty pass to Patrick Bajkov, who got past Hughes for a shorthanded goal at 1:47 to make it 2-0 Tips.
Minutes later, more magical stick work by Matt Fonteyne lead to a sweet feed to Bajkov who sent a laser beam from the slot past Hughes to make it 3-0 Tips at 5:59. Seattle got on the board as Zack Andrusiak deflected his first goal past Hart to make it 3-1 at 7:03. Seattle didn’t celebrate their lone goal for too long as Bryce Kindopp went in all alone against Hughes to seal the deal and make it 4-1 Tips at the 10:12 mark. Everett threw 18 shots versus Seattle’s 11 shots in the second.
The third period did saw great goaltending by both Hart and Hughes as Hart made 8 saves and Hughes made 15 saves; both goaltenders were perfect throughout the third. Both teams amped up their physicality throughout the third and really set the tone for game two tomorrow. Neither team managed to score a power play goal this evening as Everett went 0 for 4 and Seattle went 0 for 2.
Notes: Silvertips scratches included Blake Lyda, Jameson Murray, Dawson Butt, Kyle Walker and Bronson Sharp … Garrett Pilon and Bryce Kindopp each got a playoff goal… the Tips improved to 14-11 lifetime in Game 1 situations … they have won six of their last seven Game 1 scenarios.
