TIPS WIN: 8 Is Great!
EVERETT, Wash. – Carter Hart turned in a 41-save effort while back to back strikes in 22 seconds were enough to lift the Everett Silvertips past the Portland Winterhawks in a 2-1 victory before 9,578 fans at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in WHL action on Saturday.
The Silvertips moved to within three points of first place Portland with a season high eight game winning streak, using goals by Connor Dewar and Bryce Kindopp in the second period. Hart earned his 13th win of the season and saved his busiest workload for the third period when he recorded 19 saves.
UP NEXT: The Silvertips continue their road swing and finish four games in five days on Sunday, 5:05 p.m. (1380 AM / 95.3 FM / WHL Live / Tips App) against the host Tri-City Americans.
After a scoreless first period, the Silvertips survived a scare when Patrick Bajkov left the ice on a knee-on-knee hit by Alex Overhardt. After Overhardt left for the kneeing penalty, the Tips worked the puck to Dewar at the left circle, who beat Cole Kehler through the five hole for a power play goal at the six-minute mark.
Just 22 seconds later, Jake Christiansen funneled a puck to the net which Kindopp deflected over the shoulder of Kehler for a 2-0 edge.
Montana Onyebuchi and John Ludvig dropped the gloves for an intense scrap lasting nearly 45 seconds, but the Silvertips again quieted the near capacity crowd with Hart stopping all 14 shots he saw in the second frame.
Ludvig broke the scoreless tie at 2:48 of the third period on a snapper at the left circle, prompting a ten minute delay on Portland’s Teddy Bear Toss goal while trailing 2-1.
Portland funneled multiple chances at the net and pulled Kehler in the final minute, but Riley Sutter’s face-off win against Alex Overhardt was enough to burn the last five seconds off the clock.
Kehler took the loss on 23 shots.
