RECAP // Chasing Down Victory
EVERETT, Wash. – Chase Simon broke a 2-2 tie at 6:31 and Hunter Campbell finished a third period rally with an empty net goal, helping lift Team Green to a 4-2 victory in the annual Green vs. Grey Game, concluding the first phase of 2021 Silvertips Training Camp presented by Chick-fil-A on Sunday at Angel of the Winds Arena.
Vince Lamanna scored both goals for Team Grey. The second overall pick of the CHL Import Draft, Niko Huuhtanen, earned a pair of assists for Team Grey while Ben Hemmerling did the same for Team Green. Third year Tips goaltender, Braden Holt, soon to depart for Toronto Maple Leafs camp, teamed with Roman Basran for the victory in net.
Ben Hemmerling feathered a pass to Jackson Berezowski at the Team Grey net for a successful re-direction and 1-0 advantage, 8:51 into the game and Team Grey responded on Lamanna’s rebound off a power play blast by Huuhtanen, tying the game at 1-1, at 11:44 of the period.
Jacob Wright took a feed from Hemmerling at the left circle and beat back-up goaltender Evan May (replacing starter Koen MacInnes) at 14:16 for a 2-1 lead for Team Green in the second period and Team Grey responded again, with Lamanna’s re-direction at 15:04 from Huuhtanen for a 2-2 game.
After a relatively clean second period but with Team Grey pressing with a 25-13 shots advantage, the two teams continued to exchange momentum until Simon’s go-ahead goal with 13:29 left in regulation for a 3-2 Team Green lead. Ronan Seeley teed up a point shot that took a carom off Simon at the net.
Campbell finished Aidan Sutter’s clearing pass to seal the game with an empty netter with 1:05 left in regulation.
NOTES: Team Grey earned the final edge in shots on net, 36-28 despite Green pulling away with a 15-11 advantage in the final period … Silvertips Alberta Scout, Travis Easton, served as head coach behind the Team Green bench, opposing B.C. scout Dylan Franson (Team Grey).
