One Is Not Enough
EVERETT, Wash. – Noah Juulsen was the only home goal scorer while the Seattle Thunderbirds used three unanswered goals to defeat the Everett Silvertips, 3-1 in the 7:00 p.m. game of the Holiday Inn Preseason Classic at XFINITY Arena on Friday evening.
Donovan Neuls maneuvered through traffic to the left circle and buried a wrister under the bar for a 1-0 edge at 7:08 of the first period and Jarrett Tyszka used speed off the attack to boost the Thunderbirds lead to 2-0 at 11:52, when he converted a wrister from the right circle.
The Silvertips responded by picking up shots on goal for the duration of the period and continued pressure through the second period, but the deficit grew larger on a Nick Holowko deflection at the right post, at 4:39 of the third period for a 3-0 cushion.
The Silvertips got on the board with Noah Juulsen’s first of the preseason, a dangle and snipe from the right circle at 9:43 of the third period to cut the deficit to 3-1. The goal detonated the Silvertips pressure, who were another close chance away from a one-goal game until Carl Stankowski denied a bid at the top of the crease with a diving stick save.
Carter Hart, making his preseason debut, took the loss with 22 stops. Counterpart Carl Stankowski made 30 saves.
