Miettinen, Smith named NHL Central Scouting Players to Watch
EVERETT, Wash. — Everett Silvertips center Julius Miettinen and defender Tarin Smith have been named Players to Watch ahead of the 2024 NHL Draft by the NHL Central Scouting Service.
Miettinen, an ’06-born Helsinki, Finland native, is in his first Western Hockey League season after being selected 30th-overall in the 2023 CHL Import Draft. The 6-foot-3, 207-pound forward was assigned a “C” rating by the NHL Central Scouting Service, projecting him as a potential 4th- or 5th-round pick. He has recorded two goals and one assist through 10 games so far this season. In 2022-23, he posted 10 goals with 12 assists in 38 games with HIFK U20 in Finland. Miettinen skated in five games at the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup netting one goal, and earned a bronze medal with Team Finland at the 2021 U-17 World Hockey Challenge.
Smith, an ’06-born Porcupine Plain, SK native, was originally selected 20th-overall in the 2021 WHL Draft. Measuring at 6-foot-1, 176 pounds, Smith has appeared in 20 career games in the Western Hockey League, logging two goals. He posted three assists in five games at the 2021 WHL Cup with Team Saskatchewan, and collected two points in seven games en route to a silver medal at the 2022 U-17 World Hockey Challenge with Team Canada Red. Smith was given a “W” rating by the NHL Central Scouting Service, projecting him as a 6th- or 7th-round NHL pick.
