Grouette, 18, is honoring several members of his family lost to various forms of cancer over the last six years. His uncle Chris succumbed to an aggressive form of prostate cancer in October of 2017, survived by his wife and three young children, while his grandfather passed from liver cancer in January of 2022. His campaign last year raised over $3,000 thanks to generous donations from Silvertips fans, alumni, staff and others around the hockey community. Players and staffers alike have already shaved mustaches in solidarity with Movember and Grouette’s initiative.
“[Chris] was an amazing man and doctor that dedicated his life to his patients and his family,” Grouette noted before launching his campaign last season. “This loss made a huge impact on our family, so we’d like to raise some money and awareness so that other people may not have to suffer like our family has. I’ve felt so supported by my teammates, coaches, billets, fans and family on my journey.”
Grouette is aiming to raise $2,500 throughout the month, though Silvertip Country is implored to push through the ceiling and raise as much as possible!
Movember is a charitable organization focused on men’s mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Each November, participants are encouraged to grow mustaches to raise awareness of the organization and its benefits.
