GAME RECAP: Silvertips stymied by Ratzlaff’s 62 saves in 3-1 loss
KENT, Wash. — Everett’s eight game winning streak came to an abrupt end Saturday night in Kent, as Scott Ratzlaff stopped 62 of 63 in a 3-1 Thunderbirds win.
The first period elapsed with a scoreless tie, the Silvertips outshooting the Thunderbirds 16-8 and killing off three penalties. A fortuitous bounce from behind the net off the shoulder of Tyler Palmer proved to be Braeden Cootes’ ninth goal of the year, giving the Thunderbirds a 1-0 lead at the end of two.
Nathan Pilling potted a powerplay goal at 6:46 in the third period to extend the lead to 2-0. Caden Brown brought the Tips within reach with the net empty at 18:20 in the third period, but a Kazden Mathies shorthanded empty-netter with 25 seconds left sealed the 3-1 final.
Tyler Palmer saved 19 of 21 in the loss.
