GAME RECAP: Petruk scores first career goal, Tips down Giants 4-1 in front of sell-out crowd
EVERETT, Wash. — Andrew Petruk netted his first career goal and the Tips held the Giants to just 17 shots on goal defensively in a 4-1 win in front of a sell-out crowd Saturday night.
Kaden Hammell opened the scoring at 11:45 in the first period, hammering a rebound past Brett Mirwald for his eighth goal of the season. Aidan Sutter blasted his sixth goal of the season home on a 4-on-3 powerplay to give the Tips a 2-0 lead after one.
Ty Thorpe tallied for the Giants at 16:08 in the second period to bring Vancouver within one despite being outshot 17-4 in the middle frame.
Beau Courtney provided the insurance for Everett just 52 seconds into the third period, snapping a wrister for his eighth goal of the campaign. Andrew Petruk netted his first career WHL goal at 4:09, generating a partial breakaway for himself and sniping a wrist shot short-side.
Tyler Palmer stopped 16 of 17 for the win, his 15th as a Silvertip.
