GAME RECAP: Hemmerling grabs goal, assist in 2-1 win over Rockets
EVERETT, Wash. — The Everett Silvertips returned home with aplomb Friday night, besting the Kelowna Rockets 2-1 at Angel of the Winds Arena.
Austin Roest opened the scoring at 12:06 in the first period, slipping past Kelowna’s defense and tucking a backhander past Jake Pilon for his ninth of the season.
The second period would elapse scoreless, thanks in large part to an impactful 5-on-3 penalty kill for Everett with two defenders in the box.
Ben Hemmerling extended the lead at 7:57 in the third period, powering past three Kelowna defenders and pushing the puck through Pilon for his sixth of the campaign. Though Hiroki Gojsic would snap the shutout at 19:28, the Silvertips would hang on for a 2-1 victory.
Tyler Palmer stopped 22 of 23 in the victory, his sixth. Hemmerling finished with two points in his 150th career WHL game.
