2023-24 Player Profile: Dexter Whittle
Dexter Whittle brings a workman-like attitude to the Silvertips’ defensive corps. The 19-year-old is part of an experienced right-side leading Everett from the back end.
2022-23 in review
While injury sidelined Whittle for nearly two months, he still racked up 20 assists in 49 regular season appearances last season. He added an extra assist in five postseason contests. Whittle’s strong suit is his simplicity; a consistent approach that results in crisp zone exits from his own end and pucks in deep in the other.
Does Dexter Whittle like horror movies? How does Aidan Sutter cook his eggs?

“I thought it was definitely a big jump year,” Whittle noted at the conclusion of the season. “I learned a lot along the way. A lot of ups and downs, but [everyone] definitely improved.”
Whittle recorded two three-assist nights over the course of the season- one on Jan. 11 in a 9-3 win at Spokane, the other on Mar. 3 in a 10-3 home victory over Portland.
Prior to last year, he posted two goals and seven assists in 46 games as a rookie in 2021-22.
Steak and potatoes
A “meat and potatoes” kind of hockey player does the little things right and keeps their nose to the proverbial grindstone. Such is the way of Dexter Whittle, who despite measuring on the shorter side at 5-foot-9 and 179 pounds, battles with rigor and is rarely caught out of position.
Meat and potatoes is also exactly what the Everett Silvertips were treated to in a surprise visit to Whittle’s hometown steakhouse during their East Division roadtrip last season.

The Whittle family planned a detour to Arlington Hotel in Maryfield, SK, where the Silvertips were treated to a delectable steak dinner. A team-signed Whittle sweater now adorns the Arlington Hotel walls, less than 50 kilometers from Dexter’s house.
“I’ve been coming here for a lot of my life,” Whittle said during the trip. “A lot of special dinners have been here. It’s always a special place. It was a good surprise when I walked in.”
Learning and growing
Whittle enters his 19-year-old season with 95 career regular season games under his belt. Joined by fellow right-handers Kaden Hammell (’05) and Ty Gibson (’03), he is part of an experienced defensive group evolving by the day.
“Everyone learned from [last season],” he noted. “I think we’re ready to get back stronger than ever next year.”
