HITMEN TOP OIL KINGS IN OVERTIME – Spencer Humphries scored on a power play 4:11 into overtime to lift the Calgary Hitmen to a 6-5 victory over the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings in Western Hockey League action on Sunday.
Alex Roach scored twice and set up another while Brady Brassart, Cody Sylvester and Brooks Macek also scored for the Hitmen (4-0-1-1), who defeat the Oil Kings for the second time in a row. Chris Driedger stopped 26 of 31 shots he faced in the win.
T.J. Foster enjoyed a four-goal performance, giving him seven on the season, and Michael St. Croix scored the tying goal with 40 seconds to play in the third period for the Oil Kings (4-2-1-0), who went 2-for-3 on the power play. Laurent Brossoit turned aside 26 of 32 shots he faced in the loss.
RAIDERS 5, ICE 3
Shane Danyluk scored twice and set up another to help the visiting Prince Albert Raiders to a 5-3 victory over the Kootenay Ice on Sunday.
Leon Draisaitl scored his first WHL goal and chipped in an assist while Sawyer Lange and Davis Vandane also scored for the Raiders (6-0-0-1), who have won six straight games and sit in first place in the overall WHL standings. Andy Desautels made 26 saves to post the victory.
Brock Montgomery scored twice and Jordyn Boyd also scored while Sam Reinhart chipped in three assists for the Ice (1-4-0-0), who allowed the game’s first four goals en route to their second loss in a row. Mackenzie Skapski made five saves on eight shots in the first period, taking the loss, while Wyatt Hoflin made 11 saves over the final two periods.
ROYALS 2, GIANTS 1
Austin Carroll’s power play marker 6:15 into the second period stood up as the game-winner as the visiting Victoria Royals edged the Vancouver Giants 2-1 on Sunday.
Brandon Magee scored his sixth goal of the season for the Royals (6-2-0-0), who went 1-for-3 on the power play to claim their second win in a row. Patrik Polivka stopped 29 of 30 shots, including a third-period penalty shot, to post the victory.
Nathan Burns – with his fifth goal of the season – had the lone tally for the Giants (2-5-0-0), who outshot the visitors30-22 in the contest. Tyler Fuhr made 20 saves in a losing cause.
REBELS 4, WARRIORS 3 S/O
Matt Bellerive scored the winner in a shootout to lift the visiting Red Deer Rebels to a 4-3 triumph over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Sunday.
Charles Inglis – with the tying goal in the final minute of the third frame – scored and set up another in regulation while Matt Dumba and Tyson Ness also scored for the Rebel (3-5-0-1), who went 0-for-2 on the power play. Patrik Bartosak made 41 saves through regulation play, and wasn’t beaten in the shootout to post the win.
Sam Fioretti picked up a goal and an assist while Travis Brown and Andrew Johnson also scored for the Warriors (3-3-0-1), who outshot the visiting Rebels 44-33 in the contest. Justin Paulic made 29 saves in regulation, but was beaten once in the shootout to absorb the loss.
AMERICANS 5, SILVERTIPS 3
Justin Feser scored his fifth goal of the season to help the visiting Tri-City Americans post a 5-3 win over the Everett Silvertips on Sunday.
Parker Bowles, Brian Williams, Beau McCue and Zach Yuen also scored for the Americans (4-3-0-1), who scored the game’s first four goals and withstood a ‘Tips’ comeback attempt to post their third win in four games. Eric Comrie made 19 saves in the win.
Kohl Bauml and Ryan Harrison each picked up a goal and an assist while Trent Lofthouse also scored for the Silvertips (1-5-0-1), who have lost three straight contests. Cole Holowenko allowed four goals on 16 shots through the first 26 minutes of the game, absorbing the loss. Daniel Cotton made 14 saves the rest of the way in his ‘Tips’ debut.
