Prince George, B.C. – The Royals and Cougars met for their first match up of the season tonight at the CN Centre in Prince George.
The Royals struck first with a power play goal from Justin Kipkie at 8:12 of the first period, assisted by Cole Reschny and Teydon Trembecky. The Cougars answered back with a power play goal of their own from Borya Valis. The teams were dead locked at one a piece after 20 minutes of play.
Viliam Kmec gave the Cougars at 2-1 lead 6:13 into the second period, followed up less than three minutes later by Terik Parascak’s goal to extend the Cougars lead to 3-1. Koehn Ziemmer’s power play marker put the Cougars up 4-1 after two periods.
Less than one minute into the third period Reggie Newman cut the Cougars’ lead to 4-2 on a goal assisted by Tanner Scott and Markus Loponen. Koehn Ziemmer’s second goal of the game, at 7:50 of the period restored the Cougars’ three goal lead. Less than two minutes later, Markus Loponen got the Royals back within two, assisted by Tanner Scott and Reggie Newman. Riley Heidt scored on the Royals’ empty net to solidify the Cougars win 6-3.
