GAME RECAP
For the first time this season, the Rockets opened the scoring.
At 3:09 of the first period, Drew Larioza broke in alone and beat Kamloops goaltender Logan Edmonstone glove side for his first career WHL goal. Madden Daneault picked up the assist.
Kamloops answered midway through the period. Teagen Bouchard tied the game at 10:42, and just over two minutes later Brady Ondrus put the Blazers ahead on the power play, sending a backhand in off a strange bounce at 12:52.
The Rockets wasted no time responding in the second.
Just 42 seconds into the period, Eli Barrett picked the short side with a well-placed shot to even the score at 2-2. The goal was unassisted and Barrett’s second of the season.
Kelowna took its second lead of the night at 10:45. Rowan Guest sent a shot in from the point and Daneault got a piece of it in front, deflecting it past Edmonstone to make it 3-2. Jakub Frolo also assisted on the goal.
Kamloops pulled even again at 13:21, as Cooper Moore finished a cross-crease pass on a 2-on-1 to send the teams into the second intermission tied 3-3.
The third period was tightly checked, with no goals and no penalties on either side. Kelowna held the Blazers to four shots in the frame.
The Rockets needed just 34 seconds of overtime to finish it. Daneault got a high-danger look right in front of the net before sliding a pass to Jacob Henderson, who buried his second of the season for the winner.
Kelowna outshot Kamloops 49-25, including a 19-8 edge in the second period, and killed two of three Blazers power lays.
Daneault was named the game’s first star with a goal and two assists.
