Third Period Powers ICe
Three third period goals by the Kootenay Ice in the games final 9 minutes were enough, as Red Deer fell 4-1 in Cranbrook Friday night.
Colten Mayor opened the scoring 15:12 into the hockey game after making a nifty move around the Kootenay goaltender Nathan Lieuwen. The ICE would tie the game off a broken play with 2:16 remaining in the opening frame, as Jesse Ismond fired a hard shot farside on Darcy Kuemper.
The winning goal came of the stick of Joe Antilla, who was sent free on a breakaway, and beat Kuemper five hole. The Rebels would press, and create numerous opportunities, only to see Lieuwen make a number of highlight-reel saves. With the extra attacker pulled, Colin Archer would retreat to his own end to start a breakout, only to see the bouncing puck leave his stick as he skated in front of the net. The puck ultimately would roll into the gaping Red Deer cage, having been vacated by goaltender Darcy Kuemper.
Next action for the Rebels is Saturday night against the Chiefs at the Spokane Arena. Game time is 8pm(MT)
