Rebels Roll 8-2 Over Seattle
Tonight was a getaway game for the Rebels as they took to the ice at the Enmax Centrium for the final time before heading out on a six game road trip. Seattle came into this one well rested after arriving in Red Deer on Wednesday.
The Rebels had a decent start to the first period, recording the first 11 shots of the game on Seattle (and Team WHL for the Subway Super Series) goalie Calvin Pickard. But, wouldn’t you know it, the Thunderbirds score on their first shot at 9:58. Burke Gallimore with his sixth of the season from Brendan Rouse. 1-0 Seattle.
That triggered a Rebels scoring onslaught. Just 17 seconds later at 10:15 they tie it 1-1 courtesy of Mathew Dumba and his sixth of the year. Turner Elson and John Persson with the helpers. Rebels took a 2-1 lead at 14:53. Cory Millette jammed home his third goal of the season, unassisted. Millette struck again with his fourth of the season at 18:01 from Brooks Maxwell. John Persson rounded out the first period scoring with his fifth on a beautiful forehand-backhand deke. Chad Robinson and Alex Petrovic with the assists. Four goals in 8:21 of play. Shots were 20-4 in favour of the Rebels.
On to the second period where Adam Kambeitz scored his team leading seventh of the season at 3:46 with Persson getting the assist. 5-1 Rebels. That chased Calvin Pickard from the Thunderbirds net, Daniel Cotton took over. Kamby struck again, this time on a powerplay at 8:03, with Maxwell and Millette earning assists. 6-1 Rebels and they kept it coming. Turner Elson tipped home Aaron Borejko’s point shot at 16:24 for his fifth of the year. Kambeitz picked up an assist for his third point of the period. Seattle got one back at 19:30 when Chance Lund scored his fourth from Branden Troock and Marcel Noebels. 7-2 Rebels after two periods. Shots 31-16 for Red Deer.
In the third period… just one goal and it came late in the period at 17:01. Turner Elson with his second of the night and eighth of the year, unassisted, finished off the scoring. Final Score: Rebels 8, Seattle 2. Shots 47-20 Rebels.
