Rebels Powers Past ‘Canes
Not long after learning they will not be hosting the 2013 Memorial Cup, the Rebels looked to get back into the win column against another Central Division rival.
The Rebels opened the scoring midway through the first period. Joel Hamilton fired the puck past Damien Ketlo for his first ever Western Hockey League goal. Marc McCoy earned the lone assist. 1-0 Rebels at 10:15.Chad Robinson scored his first goal of the season at 18:48 of the 1st with John Persson getting the assist. Rebels lead Lethbridge 2-0 after the opening 20 minutes of play. Shots were 12-9 in favour of the Rebels.
Lethbridge found their way onto the scoreboard 4:04 in to the second period. Cam Braes scored his team leading fifth goal of the season with Philip Tot getting the assist. The Hurricanes cut the Rebels lead to 2-1.But, just over four minutes later at 8:21, Mathew Dumba goes top shelf on a powerplay to restore Red Deer’s two-goal lead. Colton Mayor and Turner Elson with the assists. That’s how the second period would end, Rebels leading 3-1. Shots 25-20 for Red Deer.
In the third period… both goaltenders stood their ground despite numerous scoring chances at both ends. Damien Ketlo and Patrik Bartosak took turns dazzling the crowd with some great saves. Lethbridge brought Ketlo to the bench for an extra attacker with just over two minutes left and the Hurricanes still trailing by two. Adam Kambeitz scored his team leading fifth goal of the season into the empty net at 18:52 from Persson and Mayor. Rebels win 4-1. Final shots on goal, Rebels – 34 Hurricanes – 31. Three Stars: 1.
