Rebels Finish Weekend With A 6-2 Loss In Calgary
CALGARY, AB – The Rebels finished off three games in three nights with the second half of a home and home series with the Calgary Hitmen. The Hitmen scored the game’s last five goals to win 6-2 over the Rebels. Red Deer had 2 wins and 1 loss over the weekend.
The Rebels opened the scoring in the first period when Conner Bleackley put one in, Evan Polei and Tyler Sandhu with the assists. The Hitmen scored a late goal from Jake Virtanen to tie the game 1-1 after one period.
The Rebels took a 2-1 lead in the second period when Tyler Sandhu scored on the power play, set up by Presten Kopeck and Brooks Maxwell. The Hitmen erupted for three goals before the second period was done. Kenton Helgeson scored two and Pavel Karnaukhov added one, to give the Hitmen a 4-2 lead after two periods.
The Hitmen scored an early one in the third period when Adam Tambellini found the net. That ended the night for starting goaltender Rylan Toth, Tax Burman went the rest of the way in the Rebels net. The Hitmen added one more on a goal by Travis Sanheim.
Mack Shields made 20 saves in the Hitmen net, Toth and Burman combined to make 19 saves in the Rebels goal. Red Deer was 1 for 4 on the power play and killed 1 of 2 shorthanded situations.
The Rebels next game is Friday in Medicine Hat, the broadcast on 106.7 The Drive begins at 7:20PM.
